Smec soccer complex
architecture competition
Conceptual Project
Montreal, 2011
In 2011, the City of Montreal has launched an architectural contest for the design of an innovative and environmentally friendly sports center in order to responds to soccer's increasing popularity among its population. TAD team has jumped on this occasion in order to assert its passion for the sport as well as for green architecture.
Being located on a site that has never received any constructions and that presents a large vegetation cover, the first priority in relation to the implementation of the building on its site was to keep the majority of tree species and native plant species.
The volume of the building was designed in continuity with the vegetated hill beside which its stands: the curved roof perpetuates the curves of the site's topography.
Its 18 meters height and its large windows on the north side makes the building highly visible during the day and at night, bringing its fair share of dynamism in the neighbourhood while offering visitors a breathtaking view of the large green park in which it stands.
The main entrance from Papineau invites soccer fans and soccer athletes to come inside. This building combines simplicity and functionality perfectly.
