SMITHs FALLs - VIA RAIL’S NEW STATION
Smiths Falls, Ontario – 2011
In 2011, TAD has completed the construction of the new VIA Rail station located in Smiths Falls, Ontario. The project was carried in several steps, starting with preliminary studies, to the production of a concept, to the construction management.
Initially, site surveys carried out by TAD have determined the ideal location of the building in relation to the existing roads, the railways and its overall orientation.
Then, TAD has produced conceptual presentations (2D and 3D). TAD coordinated the important points of the project with the Town of Smiths Falls and the Ontario Ministries of Transportation and Environment to ensure that the government authorities concerned were involved in the design process. Coordination with these departments made it possible to take the necessary measures to avoid disrupting traffic and to comply with the requirements in effect regarding rainwater management.
Once the final design was selected by VIA, TAD acted as lead consultant for the production of construction drawings and implementation, coordination with engineers, tender, and selection of the general contractor.
During the construction phase, TAD acted as construction manager and represented the client. TAD performed the tasks of contract administration (site supervision, payments, instructions, requests, coordinating contractor / consultant / client, etc.). TAD also accompanied the client in the implementation phase of the building and its site (commissioning of installed systems, additional landscaping and furnishing, etc.).
