Pacific Central Station
Revitalization of
PlatfoRm
and Canopy
Vancouver, British Colombia - 2008
In 2008, TAD received the mandate to revitalize Via Rail’s Pacific Central Station platforms in Vancouver. The project scope required that the canopy above the platform be retrofitted and refinished and that the existing lighting be replaced by new more energy efficient and aesthetically pleasing lighting fixtures. TAD performed some preliminary studies and designed the necessary interventions according to Via Rail’s requirements. TAD is presently coordinating and supervising the construction stage of the project.
The principal challenges stemmed from the fact that the work needed to be accomplished while the platforms and the station would be actively used by travelers and workers. Furthermore, the Pacific Central Station is a historical monument, and TAD was charged with pursuing Via Rail’s objectives and interests while integrating the design recommendations put forth by the numerous studies and commissions that weighed in on this project.
