CANADIAN TIRE - GRANDVIEW

Canadian Tire Retail Complex on Grandview Highway, Vancouver, BC

Design Concept: Kasian Architecture and Planning
Production and construction administration: Turner Fleischer Architects Inc.
Architect of record and Building Envelope Professional: TAD

In 2008, Canadian Tire Real Estate Ltd. mandated TAD, in collaboration with Turner Fleischer Architects, to build a new 190 000 square foot retail complex and adjacent parking lot. The main tenant will be the Canadian Tire store and the project will be located on Grandview Highway in Vancouver, BC. The project is aiming for a LEED Silver certification when construction will be completed in 2010.

Incorporating sustainable design practices in superstores is a relatively new undertaking, and the entire project team, as well as the client (Canadian Tire), wanted to create healthy environments in conformity with the best principles of sustainable and eco-sensitive design. For example, reducing the number of lighting fixtures while increasing their efficiency (in order to reduce light pollution), using vegetative walls and integrating more efficient HVAC systems will all contribute to the project’s sustainable goals.
