Town of Mont-Royal - master planning
Town of Mount-Royal, Québec
Schematic master planning.
Our mandate for this project was to makea schematic design proposal for the development of the downtown area of Town of Mount-Royal. This concept is based on the idea of developing the area over the commuter train tracks that divide the city into two parts. This propositon for the urban developpement of the surroundings of a railroad could also apply to other cities where a similar context is found.
This proposal for the Town of Mount-Royal dowtown area includes the creation of a new public square surrounded by a new railway station and mixed-use developments that would be composed of retail spaces with terraces for cafes and outdoor sitting areas on the ground level. The development of two tall buildings on either side of the central place provides the city with an urban frame that does not break the visual link between the eastern and western parts of the city. It also gives visibility to the CN tracks, made more present and accessible by the overall intervention. The proposal also includes traffic and pedestrian crossings and increased parking areas.
The creation of such a project over the trench of the CN is aiming to go along with and update the City Beautiful ideal-star shaped layout as that of the Town of Mount-Royal and the city of Washington. This type of space would make the city center become more dynamic and accessible, and give it more presence.
