BC Ferries Vancouver, BCQueen of the North - Interior refurbishingThe Queen of the North sails between the northern tip of Vancouver Island thru the Westcoasts Inside Passage up to Prince Rupert. It carries both cars and passengers in an overnight trip. Its accomodation includes large seating areas, food and beverage facilities, washrooms and sleeping berths. BC Ferries retained the services of SDG with Thibodeau as principal in charge. The scope of work required to collaborate with Kvaerner's Naval Architects, nurture an ongoing open line of communication with BC Ferries different stakeholders in the project, coordinate specialized consultants and satisfy Canada's Coast Guard challenging standards. The interiors were completely refurbished requiring sourcing furnishings, fixtures and equipments not common in landbased structures. The choice is limited and the cost astonishing. Working in a collaborative approach resulted in succesful completion of the project on time and budget. The result was an increase in ridership and client satisfaction. |
