Pratt & Whitney Canada, Longueuil Plant 1
J-12 Building Expansion
Pratt & Whitney wished to expand and transform their existing warehouse to shelter their new production line of PW600 (a turbofan engine). The programs goals were classic:
- A tight schedule;
- A limited budget;
- A small area to work with;
- And the cohabitation of office spaces, production line and test cells (with controlled levels of dust, lighting levels, high-pitch noise control, etc.).
The PW600 being an innovative solution for propulsion, Pratt & Whitney needed a space designed as a showcase to amaze their customers as well as a secure and productive site.
Respecting PWCs criteria, the Thibodeau Architecture + Design Team in association with Tecsults engineers produced a project that is in keeping with the PW600s image of environmentally friendliness, low in energy consumption, high durability, reliability and low maintenance cost.
The 6,800 sq.ft. original building was transformed into : 1,500 sq.ft. of office space and 5,300 sq.ft. of production line. The expansion occupies two floors of 3,500 sq.ft. with the production line at ground level and offices on the upper level. The total square footage is now 13,800.
