Arts Building – New Elevator

The McGill Arts Building is the center peice of this Ivy League downtown campus. The original section dates back to the late 19th Century and was in need for a new vertical transportation system to replace an old one that did not allow for current accessibility requirements.

Due to lack of detailed documentation of the existing, an extensive architectural survey provided the backbone to design a new elevator core and modified adjacent spaces and staircase.

The scope extended beyond the building's exterior enveloppe and required attention to detail in regards to its high heritage value both inside and outside.

Last but not least was to provide for the necessary mechanical and electrical requirements in a very tight space inside very old building assemblies.
