Lafarge St-Constant
Cement Plant Distribution and Shipping Center
St-Constant, Quebec
One of North Americas largest cement plants proceeded to automate the ordering and loading of trains and trucks which resulted in the need to modify the Distribution and Shipping Center.
The retained concept was to consolidate two small installations on one larger floor that translated in major modifications. The new floor was built on piles and overhangs to free-up truck circulation below and address the adjacent cement silos. The triangular shaped command center allows the operator at the order desk to keep an eye on vehicular traffic below whilst keeping a hand on the loading controls.
A phasing plan was created to insure that construction work would not impede on-going operations. Other challenges include the presence of huge amounts of fine dust as well as a heavy-industry environment.
