Golf tower competition
Lima, Peru – 2008
Architectural entry for a residential tower competition organized by Arquitectum, an organization dedicated entirely to planning architectural events and competitions. This competition was launched for a private developer who hoped to obtain a variety of options from which to choose before building their real estate project. The program required the design of a luxurious residential tower facing a prominent golf course and giving residents a view on the ocean. The competitors were asked to design a sixteen-storey building, the apartments within it, as well as the lobby, the underground parking lot and various recreational areas.
TAD’s proposal gathers inspiration from the natural elements that surround the site; the final design evokes wind, light and warmth while embodying the very notion of a luxury tower that could soon become emblematic of Peru’s capital city. The use of movable, sliding wooden panels not only brings to mind the warmth and organic nature of the surroundings, but these also serve as screens that block the penetrating northern rays. Natural ventilation is also encouraged, and thermal masses are strategically placed to ensure that the building is highly energy efficient. Numerous openings to the outdoors and open-air spaces within are meant to allow spectacular views while creating multiple areas for social interaction and exchanges between family members and neighbours. TAD is proposing a unique, dynamic residential complex that is not only inspired by its site and surroundings, but that in turn also inspires its residents.
