Air Canada Facilities,
Dorval Airport, Quebec

Air Canada’s brief called for a complete renovation of its passenger reception counter and luggage handling facilities located at the Dorval Airport.

All construction work was executed without causing any interruptions to the clients’ operations even though it required the complete replacement of its conveyor system for luggage handling and of all the ticket counters, in addition to the expansion of the building in two different areas. A work schedule was developed by the architect, in collaboration with Air Canada, the airport’s management and the conveyor system manufacturer BAE.

On the ground floor, the mandate included a transborder flights luggage room equipped with a carrousel type conveyor, a domestic flights luggage room equipped with a multiple lane conveyor system, a parking area for vehicles assigned to luggage transportation, a computer room housing the conveyors computerized control system, a personnel room able to accommodate approximately 30 people and a courier room for the distribution of Air Canada’s internal courier.

On the first floor, the mandate included the appointment of offices for the fleet’s traffic control personnel, a cafeteria for approximately 40 employees, all of the reception counters for domestic and transborder flights, the American custom facilities and a Special Services counter and waiting room for passengers requiring special needs (children, senior citizens,..)

At the end of 1996, Air Canada had to relocate its ticket and service counters to accommodate international flights. This mandate included the relocation of half a dozen counters, the expansion of the conveyors system and the creation of a decorative marquee above the Special Services counter.
